🔵Will Bluesky replace Twitter?

Happy Monday! Regular reviews are an important activity in business. They give you a chance to ask yourself: are we still on track to reach our goals? And if not, what adjustments need to be made?

In that spirit, we’ve got an announcement to make:

As of next week, we’re shifting from a daily newsletter to a weekly newsletter.

We’ve got some ambitious growth goals, and in order to hit those targets, we’re temporarily redeploying some of our resources to better align our strategy with our long-term vision.

Moving forward, the newsletter will go out on Fridays. This way, you’ll be able to catch up on all the week’s big stories before you head into the weekend.

We will return to a daily cadence in the near future. But for now, this is the adjustment we need to make so we can reach our goals.

As always, thank you for reading 🙏

And feel free to reach out with any thoughts, questions, or feedback you’d like to share.

Now, here’s what we’re discussing in today’s dispatch: Bluesky, Meta, and Instagram. Plus the 7 deadly sins of freelancing.

Get smarter on AI in 5 mins a week

What is generative AI? Will our jobs be replaced by ChatGPT? Which tools should we be testing? How long before Skynet comes online and the robots take over the world?

We've got a lot of questions about artificial intelligence and how it's going to impact the freelance economy. That's why we read Synthetic Mind.

Each week, they send out a short 5-min memo with the latest on what's happening in AI.

Making the Rounds

  • Will Bluesky replace Twitter? The surging Twitter alternative, launched by Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey, is now the 8th most-downloaded social media app, with politicians like Alexandra Ocasio Cortez and celebrities like Chrissy Teigen joining the platform in recent weeks.

  • Meta reveals AI targeting + in-app checkouts outperform website-only campaigns. The company shared the test results on its most recent quarterly earnings call, revealing that Shops using its Advantage+ targeting option, combined with in-app checkouts, had 20% higher ROAS on average versus traditional website-only campaigns.

  • Instagram makes it easier for brands to source user-generated content. Shop owners will soon be able to feature any videos where they’ve been tagged by users on their store for added engagement and social proof.

Working With Clients

The 7 Deadly Sins of Freelancing

One of the most effective ways to achieve success in anything is by learning what NOT to do.

And building a profitable freelance business is no different.

So if you’re looking to attract top tier clients who are happy to pay premium prices and want to work with you again and again…

Avoid these 7 deadly sins of freelancing:

1. Missing deadlines

2. Not building your network

3. Not investing in your skills

4. Overpromising and under delivering

5. Not responding quickly to client messages

6. Not diversifying your client acquisition channels

7. Responding negatively to criticism or constructive feedback

Mindset Shift of the Week

"I don't react, I respond."

You can’t control everything that happens to you.

Whether it’s a project that flops, a client who lets you go, or an embarrassing mistake you wish you could take back…

Bad stuff happens sometimes.

What sets A-Players apart from everyone else is how they respond.

Instead of jumping the gun or wallowing in self-pity, they formulate a response and then take action.

That’s it.

So the next time you encounter a setback, don’t react — respond.
