Making the Rounds

  • How does the LinkedIn algorithm work? Unlike most other platforms, it’s not designed for virality, according to this article. But one thing’s clear: if you want more reach, aim for a high velocity of reactions, comments, and shares after you post.

  • RIP BuzzFeed News. Parent company BuzzFeed announced its Pulitzer Prize-winning News division will shut down as 180 employees are laid off across the organization.

  • Want to run ads on Twitter? Now you need a paid subscription. As part of its ongoing PR masterclass, the company sent out an email to notify advertisers they’ll need a Twitter Blue ($8/mo) or Verified Organizations ($1,000/mo) subscription to continue running ads beyond April 21.

Working With Clients

What to Do When Prospects Say “I Need to Think About It” At the End of a Sales Call

The goal of every sales call is to close the deal.

But what if the prospect says they need time to think about it before saying yes?

Send them a written proposal recapping your pitch ASAP.

Include:

  • The problem (in their own words)

  • The goal of the project

  • Deliverables

  • Timeline

  • Price

  • Proof (case studies or testimonials)

The more time that passes, the less likely they are to pull the trigger.

So make sure to strike while the iron is hot.

Pro tip: Use an AI notetaker like Fireflies to get a high-quality transcript of the meeting so you can mirror the exact words phrases they use to describe problems and goals in your proposal.

Mindset Shift of the Week

“Perfectionism is the enemy of progress.”

It’s important to hold yourself to a high standard.

But don’t let your desire for perfection prevent you from posting content, sending proposals, or pitching clients.

Instead, learn to embrace “good enough.”

The fastest way to improve your freelance skills is to get more reps in.

So focus on progress first. Let perfection come later.
