Making the Rounds

  • TL;DR: Influencer marketing spend is projected to rise 3.5x faster than social ad spend in 2023, according to Insider Intelligence.

  • Why it matters: Niche media is the future. And in the age of TikTok, influencer marketing is the new celebrity endorsement. But influencer marketing requires a lot more manual effort than programmatic social ads, from outreach to collaboration. So as businesses invest more money into this sector, itā€™s going to create a slew of opportunities for savvy freelancers with influencer marketing experience.

  • TL;DR: New job openings posted at TikTok reveal the company is looking to build out new features, including private messaging.

  • Why it matters: Despite recently overtaking Instagram in time spent per user, TikTok still has a long way to go to match ad revenues from bigger platforms. And that starts with doing more to encourage people to stay on the platform instead of sharing content off-platform.

  • TL;DR: Adoption of remote work is accelerating fast. The number of remote workers in the U.S. tripled from 2019 to 2021, going from 9 million to 27 million.

  • Why it matters: As more companies open the door to remote work, many are also experimenting with freelancers and part-time contractors over full-time hires.

One of the most effective ways to achieve success in anything is by learning what NOT to do.

Working For Yourself

Try This 6-Step System to Engineer Creativity

No matter what service you provide as a freelancerā€¦

It pays to be creative.

Whether that means coming up with a new ad angle, brainstorming new content formats, or mapping out new systems and processesā€¦

Clients look to you for fresh ideas.

And the more reliably you can deliver, the better youā€™ll be compensated for it.

But to produce creative ideas on-demand, you need a system.

Thatā€™s where this interview with Tim Ferriss and award-winning tabletop game designer Justin Gary comes in.

Inside, Justin reveals his 6-step ā€œcore design loopā€ for engineering new games...

Best part is, this unique approach is both highly actionable and applicable to all creative fields ā€” not just game design.

Click here to check it out.

P.S:

Like most of Timā€™s podcasts, this interview is a long one.

If you want to skip ahead, the core design loop section starts around 54:45.

Hypefury: Create engaging carousels in seconds

Weā€™re bullish on LinkedIn for freelancers.

Clients and service providers are actively looking to connectā€¦

And the organic reach you can get on the platform right now is better than Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or Twitter.

Even with little to no followers.

And when it comes to creating engaging content for LinkedIn, carousels are king.

These are swipeable collections of images, much like the ones you see on Instagram.

The only problem isā€¦

Carousels on LinkedIn have to be uploaded in PDF format, not JPG or PNG.

One way to do this is to upload or create all the images in Canva, then download it as a PDF.

But weā€™ve discovered a better way:

Itā€™s a content creation and scheduler originally built for Twitterā€¦

But with it, you can easily cross-post content to LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.

Plus if you post a Twitter thread, it can screenshot your tweets and email you a PDF so you can upload it to LinkedIn as a carousel in just a few clicks.

Soā€¦

If youā€™re looking to step up your LinkedIn game so you can grow your freelance biz in 2023ā€¦
